Harvey P. Glissendorf

Harvey P. Glissendorf, 80, of 279 Ledgewood Drive, passed away on Monday, February 25, 2008 after a brief stay at the Rocky Knoll Healthcare Center in Plymouth. He was born January 8, 1928 in Fond du Lac, the son of Archie and Lillian Vey Glissendorf. After a serving in the United States Air Force in the early 1950's Harvey came back to Wisconsin to attend The University of Wisconsin, Madison where he met and married Daisy Marie Minster of Dallas, Texas in 1959. From that union, Harvey's two daughters were born, Carolyn Marie and Linda Sue. Later in his life, Harvey married Betty Keys Carey to who he was married for twenty-five years until her death in May of 2001 Harvey was an accomplished pianist. His mother Lillian would proudly tell the story of her son's 'perfect pitch.' Harvey could identify any note by sound only that his mother played on the piano. As a teenager he became know as the `Boogie Woogie King' and appeared on popular Midwest talent shows on Chicago's WMAQ and WGN radio stations. Harvey played with many bands in the Fond du Lac area including the Ron Harvey Band, which was originally formed with the late Ron Bothe when they were only teenagers. Most recently, he recorded music that he had written in the 1950's, Carnival of Love and The Fond du Lac Polka, using area talents and the Fond du Lac High School Symphonic Orchestra. In July of last year, Harvey was part of a concert tribute to the Ron Harvey Orchestra held in Buttermilk Park. During the concert he performed several pieces with his high school sweetheart and former musical companion from the 1940's, Lucine Theyerl Dellger. Harvey had also owned and operated for over thirty years Piano Service Specialist in Fond du Lac tuning and repairing 100's of pianos in the city. Harvey is survived by a large family who will miss him dearly including daughters Carolyn and her husband Joey Bingham of Austin, and Linda and her husband Dr. Michael Lessner of Austin; step-daughter Margaret 'Midge' and her husband Tom Reinke of Fond du Lac; four step-sons including, Robert 'Bob' Carey of Fond du Lac, James 'Jim' and his wife Joanne Carey of Fond du Lac, Michael 'Casey' Carey of Indianapolis, and John 'John' and his wife Oriana Carey of Fond du Lac. Grandchildren include Michael McKinney and Patrick Garner of Austin; Lucy, Copeland, Ellajane and Willem Lessner of Austin; Wesley, Lucas and Nathan Reinke; Amanda 'Mandy' and Jamie Carey and Kimberly Carey Finn; Cassandra 'Caci' Carey; and Hayley and Natalie Carey all of the Fond du Lac area; and Spencer Carey of Indianapolis. Also surviving Harvey is his cousin Helen Glissendorf of Marshfield Wisconsin and special dear friend Lucine Theyerl Dellger. Preceding Harvey in death were his parents Lillian and Archie, his young sister Caroline and wife Betty Glissendorf.



Visitation for Mr. Glissendorf will be on Thursday, February 28, 2008 from 10 am to 2 pm at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home in Fond du Lac. Services will follow the visitation at 2 pm at the funeral home. The Reverend Dottie Mathews of the Fox Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship will officiate. Burial will be in Rienzi Cemetery.The family requests that memorials be directed to the Fond du Lac High School Symphonic Orchestra.
