Hazel A. Petrie, 86, of St. Francis Terrace, passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at Hospice Home of Hope. She was born in Fond du Lac on November 6, 1927, the daughter of William and Mary (Charbonneau) Detweiler. Hazel attended schools in Fond du Lac, graduating from Fond du Lac Senior High School in 1945. Prior to her marriage she worked at J.C. Penney’s. She married Francis Petrie on October 3, 1953 in Fond du Lac. She was later employed at City Hall and the Parks Department. Hazel thoroughly enjoyed going to water aerobics classes before her health forced her to quit. Traveling with her friends, especially to Door County was something she has fond memories of. Knitting and crocheting were her hobbies of which she made many unique items for family members. Hazel enjoyed her family very much. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the twinkle of her eye.
Hazel is survived by three children, Bernie (Rose) of Malone, Barb (Amy) of Santa Cruz, California, and Julie (Carl) Mesman of Wautoma; five grandchildren also survive Gramma Hazel, Rachel (Matt) Soll of Fond du Lac, Mike (Laura) Petrie of Malone, Rebekah “Becky” (Josh) Tank of Mt Calvary, John Mesman currently serving with the U.S. Navy and Adam Mesman of Wautoma; eight great-grandchildren survive Hazel, Madison and Paige Soll, Ben, Grace, Samuel and Timothy Petrie and Jasper and Heidi Tank; two sisters, Mary Alice Kuitert and Margaret (Tony) Krapfl; sisters in law Jeanne Detweiler and Betty Petrie; many nieces and nephews also.
She was preceded in death by her husband Francis in 1999, sister Donna Blalock, brothers William (infant) and Tom Detweiler, brothers in law George Kuitert, Joe Blalock and Leander Petrie.
Hazel’s family would like to extend a heartfelt “Thank You” to Ellen and Leonard Hynek, Mary Soll, Deb Immel and Carol Holzman for helping to get Hazel to the dialysis center over the past five years. Your assistance was deeply appreciated. Also to the staff at St.Francis Terrace and the Fond du Lac Dialysis Center for your compassionate care and understanding shown for Hazel. Also her last few days/weeks were spent in the wonderful care of the Palliative and Hospice staff of which Hazel’s family will be forever grateful.
VISITATION: Wednesday, June 18, 2014 from 1-4 P.M. at the St. Francis Home Chapel, 33 Everett St, Fond du Lac, WI, 54935. FUNERAL: Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at 4:00 P.M. at the St. Francis Home Chapel. Entombment will take place at Chapel of the Risen Christ Mausoleum, Calvary Cemetery.
