Helen DeMets, 88, a resident of ManorCare Nursing home, died on Saturday, September 15, 2007. She was born June 20, 1919, in Sheboygan, the daughter of George and Constance Kourbetis Liangura. On May 18, 1941, she married Charles D. DeMets in Sheboygan. He preceded her in death on December 11, 2003. Mrs. DeMets was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and the Philoptochos Society. After moving to Fond du Lac in 1953, she and her husband owned and operated DeMets Restaurant from 1953 to 1966, and was later employed by Ahern's Women's Clothing and Edith's. She enjoyed baking, reading, going to the movies, and making Christmas ornaments. Surviving are two daughters, Georgine (Andy) Micklos of Fond du Lac, and Diane (Todd) Dowland of Oshkosh, a son, James (Sue) DeMets of Gilbert, AZ, five grandchildren; Dr. Andrea (Fiancé'Joe Horn) DeMets, Chandler, AZ, Jodie (Ted) Horn of Gilbert, AZ, Dawn (John) Flynn of Sun Prairie, WI, Ellen (Brandon) Foss of Muskego, WI, and Chris (Dr. Amanda) Micklos of Fitchburg, WI; six great-grandchildren, Alec Flynn, Zoe Flynn, Harrison Foss, Greysen Foss, Colton Horn, and Breyden Horn. Her parents, husband, and two sisters, Louella Condel and Dora Andree preceded her in death.
Visitation for Mrs. Helen DeMets will be on Wednesday, September 19, 2007, from 11 am to 12 noon at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. Funeral services will be at 12 noon at the church. The Rev. Peter Pappademetriou will officiate and burial will be in Rienzi Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be directed to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church or the Arcadia Unit of ManorCare Nursing Home. Uecker-Witt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
