Helen E. Heimerl

Helen E. Heimerl, age 83, of Fond du Lac, died Thursday, May 2, 2024, at Hospice Home of Hope. She was born on March 5, 1941, in Fond du Lac, the daughter of Harold and Eunice (Stratz) Heimerl. Helen was a 1959 graduate of St. Mary’s Springs High School. She then attended Alverno College earning a bachelor’s degree in teaching. Helen then went on to earn a master’s degree in Elementary Guidance Counseling from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

Helen was a 1^st grade teacher at Elizabeth Waters Elementary School in Fond du Lac until her retirement in 2002.  Helen was a member of and very active at Holy Family Parish where she led a Tuesday scripture class at Sacred Heart.  Previously, she participated in a monthly ministry at Taycheedah Correctional Institution. She enjoyed reading, gardening, playing cards, listening to NPR, and having a glass of wine or an old fashioned. Most of all Helen loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include her two children, Allen Bernier of Fond du Lac and Carolyn Bernier of West Bend; one sister, Mary (Stephen) Bruce of Charlotte, NC; two nephews, David (Lisa) Chandek-Stark and Chris (Julie) Peace; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Eunice (Stratz) Heimerl; one aunt, Janice Stratz.

Visitation will take place from 10:00 AM until 12 noon on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at Holy Family Church, 271 4^th St. Way, Fond du Lac, WI, 54935. A funeral mass will follow the visitation at the church at 12 noon. Cremation has taken place. Interment will follow at Our Risen Savior Catholic Church Cemetery, Woodhull, WI.
