Helen I. Henker, 96, formerly of 30 N. Kayser Street, died Monday, January 14, 2008, at Grancare Nursing Home where she had been a resident since February of 2007. She was born April 16, 1911, in Fond du Lac, the daughter of John H. and Agnes L. Wernicke Grebe. On June 10, 1944, she married Sylvester "Syl" J. Henker at St. Patrick's Church. He preceded her in death on October 31, 1977. Helen was formerly employed by Metropolitan Life as a clerk for 35 years, retiring March 3, 1968. She was a member of Holy Family Parish, and former member of St. Patrick's Altar and Rosary Society. Surviving is a nephew, James (Jean) Watson of Fond du Lac, a great nephew, James Watson Jr., of El Paso, TX, and two great nieces, Janice (Rick) Apfel of Madison, and Jill Van Eijk of Key Largo, FL. She is further survived by close friends, the Lloyd Jagdfeld family, and the Jim Chatterton family, all of Fond du Lac. Her parents, husband, two sisters, Ethel Watson and Alice Grebe, and one sister-in-law, Ethel Henker, preceded her in death.
Visitation for Mrs. Helen I. Henker will be on Thursday, January 17, 2008, from 9 to 11 am at Sacred Heart Church, 232 S. Peters Avenue, Fond du Lac. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 am at the church. The Rev. James Jaeger will officiate and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. A memorial has been established in Helen's name.
