Helen Jane Schroeder, 80, formerly of 166 Fifth Street, and since the year 2000 of 452 Ellis Street, died Friday afternoon, September 19, 2008 at the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home where she had been a patient since this past April. She was born July 6, 1928, in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, the daughter of Francis and Vida Lamb. On June 6, 1953, Helen married Alfred M. Schroeder in the Rectory of Saint Mary's Catholic Church where she remained a life long member. Graduating High School from Saint Mary's Springs Academy in 1946, she had excelled in sports, and was a member of winning High School Basket Ball and Base Ball teams. She was also an avid bowling league member on many local teams during the 1940s and 1950s.Helen was employed and worked as a book keeper at Very Fine Dairy in the 1950s, at Gibson Discount Stores and A.M.P.I. Dairy and Milk Producers in the 1960s and 1970s, at Fox Valley Savings and Loan in the 1980s, and at the Fond du Lac Senior Center in the 1990s. She loved her friends as she loved her family, and was always especially thrilled to spend time with her grandchildren. As well as being an avid baseball fan, Helen loved music and would spend many hours playing popular tunes from the 1930s and 1940s on her accordion. Surviving are five sons, Robert F. Schroeder of Columbia City, IN, Richard P. (Sandy) Schroeder, Charles J."Gordy" (Jeanine) Schroeder, James T. Schroeder, and David E. (Lori) Schroeder, all of Fond du Lac, WI. She is further survived by her brothers, Francis (Marion) Lamb of Rockford, MI, and William Lamb of Fond du Lac; seven grandchildren, Rochelle (D.J.) Ohm of Cokato, MN, Charles G. Schroeder of Fond du Lac, Jeremiah (Kathy Walbrun) of Slinger, WI, Timothy (Sarah Schuster), Nicole, Rachel, and Ashley Schroeder, all of Fond du Lac. Also surviving are six great-grandchildren and a special family friend, Tony Olin, of Columbia City, IN. Her parents and husband preceded her in death.
Visitation for Helen J. Schroeder will be on Wednesday, September 24, 2008, from 9 "“ 11 a.m., at Saint Mary's Catholic Church, 93 Marquette Street, Fond du Lac, WI 54935. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Charles Cemetery. Memorials may be given in Helen's name to the Fond du Lac Senior Center.Uecker-Witt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
