Helen L. Hughes

Helen Leona (Kohlman) Hughes, 82, died December 23, 2010 at the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home. Benedict and Wilhelmina (Gantner) Kohlman celebrated her birth on September 16, 1928 in Eden. She graduated in Fond du Lac with the class of '46. Helen married a handsome young sailor, Loren (Huey) D. Hughes on Sept. 23, 1950 at St.Mary's Church in Eden, WI. They in turn celebrated the birth of each of their three children, Karen, Alan and John. When John (Ernie) entered school, Helen joined the workforce at JC Penney catalog order desk. She took pride in helping customers get the best service she could provide. She then worked for the district attorney's office where her stenographer skills were reactivated from high school secretary and business classes. She loved the challenge and variety of work her job entailed. She then worked for the Fond du Lac County Small Claims Court where helping a person was her primary task.Helen loved shopping with her sister, being a grandmother, traveling with Huey to the east and west coasts, cooking for family gatherings and taking care of family and friends.Cherished by: daughter Karen and Charles Bray, Cashmere, WA, son John and Sue Hughes, Fond du Lac; granddaughter Jennifer and Mike King, FdL, grandsons Travis and Jessica Hughes, FdL, Caleb and Jolene Bray, Cashmere, WA, Keegan and Candi Jo Bray, Cashmere, WA; great grand's: Madison, Austin and Sydney Hughes, Mason King, Calene Bray, Conner and Kasey Bray; her brothers Lyneis and Marion Kohlman, Mount Calvary, Ambrose and Merlin Kohlman, Eden; sister-in-law Carol Whitley, Fredricksburg, VA; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.Preceding her in death were her husband Huey (Jan. 13, 2002), son Alan Hughes (May 19, 2009) and sister Aleita Soyk (Nov. 17, 2010). Special thanks to her caregivers Ann Secord, Sara Roltgen, Carmen Wick plus Jennifer King and Travis Hughes who made it possible for her to live in her own home until March, 2010. Helen's life can be summed up with three ideals: pray, love, and do your best.



All services will be held at the Uecker-Witt Funeral Home with visitation on Thursday, December 30, 2010 from 4:00p.m-7:00 p.m. with funeral services Thursday, December 30, 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Deacon Larry Hughes will officiate.
