Helen M. Hickey 97, Fond du Lac passed away peacefully with her family at her side at Hospice Home of Hope, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin on June 10, 2011.Helen was born May 30, 1914 in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, the daughter of John T. Gaffney and Mary M. Crowley Gaffney. On October 20,1937 she married William E. Hickey who preceded her in death in 1984. Helen graduated from St Mary Springs Academy, a member of the first non-boarding girls class in 1932. She went on to receive her college degree from Oshkosh Normal.Helen and Bill operated a dairy farm in the Town of Friendship for many years. Helen also worked at the Sharpe Clinic for Dr. Hagel. In retirement Helen volunteered in the foster grandparents program in Fond du Lac and at St' Agnes Hospital. For her last eight years Helen lived at Northgate Senior Apartments in North Fond du Lac. She was an avid Packer and Brewer Fan. Her favorite player was Brett Favre. Helen is survived by two sons and one daughter, John (Patricia Adrian) Hickey, Green Bay, Patrick (Carol Ruhoff) Hickey, Neenah and Mary (Joseph) Resheske, North Fond du Lac. A son, Robert (Jeri Luedke) Hickey, Fond du Lac preceded her in death in 1993.She is further survived by her grandchildren - Kathleen and Tracy Needham, Oswego, Illinois, Colleen and Michael O'Brien, Racine, Thomas Hickey, Green Bay, Michael and Sara Hickey, Appleton, Peter and Susan Hickey, Neenah, Patrick and Shannon Hickey, Biltmore Lake, North Carolina, Christina and Erik Iversen, Appleton, Sherry and Tom Behnke, North Fond du Lac, John Resheske, North Fond du Lac, James and Tammy Hickey, Robert and Heidi Hickey, and Kelly and Jeff Baker all of Fond du Lac. She isalso survived by 22 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents, brothers Hugh Gaffney, John Gaffney, Robert Gaffney and their spouses.
Visitation for Helen M. Hickey will be on Monday, June 13, 2011, from 9:30 to 11:30 AM at Holy Family Church, 271 4th Street Way, Fond du Lac. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 on Monday at the church. The Reverend Robert Stiefvater will officiate and entombment will follow in the Chapel of The Risen Christ Mausoleum, Calvary Cemetery. Uecker-Witt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A memorial fund had been established in Helen's name.
