Helen Marie (Hanf) Friedel, 83, formerly of 1808 Winnebago Drive, died Monday, October 10, 2005, at St. Francis Home, where she had been a resident for the past 10 years suffering from Alzheimer's disease. She was born June 30, 1922, in Fond du Lac, the daughter of Joseph and Anna Thelen Hanf. On September 1, 1958, she married Edmund N. Friedel at St. Joseph's Church. He preceded her in death on January 11, 1982. She was a graduate of St. Mary's Springs High School and Marian College. Helen taught in the parochial school system and the Fond du Lac School District for over 20 years. She was a lifelong member of Holy Family Parish-St. Louis Church, and a member of the Daughters of Isabella. She was also a member of the Fond du Lac Retired Educators Association. Survivors include six cousins, Mary F. Wahoske, Catherine (Franklin) Birschbach, and Genevieve Stratz all of Fond du Lac, Donald Thelen of Tucson, AZ, Thomas (Janette) Thelen of Fond du Lac, and Rosemary Thelen of Chicago. Her parents and her husband preceded her in death.
Visitation for Mrs. Helen Marie (Hanf) Friedel will be on Thursday, October 13, 2005, from 1 to 2 pm at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. Liturgy of The Word services will be held at 2 pm at the funeral home. Deacon Larry Hughes will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to St. Francis Nursing Home.
