Inga A. John, 97, of North Fond du Lac, died on Saturday, December 25, 2021, at Touchstone Living Center in North Fond du Lac. She was born on August 25, 1924, in Waupun, WI, the daughter of Walter and Erna (Fischer) Pobanz.
Inga attended public school in Waupun until her parents moved to Lamartine and owned The Lamartine Tavern; an old stagecoach stop. Because Inga had started school in Waupun, she wanted to complete her education there so each day she rode to and from school with her father while he worked at Carnation Milk. Inga’s parents journeyed to Wisconsin from Germany and had to learn English right along with their children. Inga graduated from Waupun High School in 1942.
After High School, Inga attended the Milwaukee Business Institute. While in Milwaukee, Inga met the love of her life; Charles (Chuck) John who was on leave from the U.S. Navy. Since Chuck was originally from Montello, they decided to return to Lamartine and were married November 17, 1946, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Waupun. They raised three children Richard (Nancy) John of Huntley, IL, Randee (Michael) Waltz of Minocqua and Gold Canyon, AZ, and Michael (Janet) John of Oklahoma. Inga enjoyed watching her grandsons Tim (Heather) Waltz of Fond du Lac and Matt (Stacy) Waltz of Milwaukee, grow into fine young men who she was extremely proud of. She was equally proud of her great-granddaughter, Nora Waltz. She always felt that Nora took after her with her profound love of reading.
Inga grew up with four sisters. Twins, Ardell Roeske and Ardis Lepley, Hilda Ogle and Barbara Seder of Fond du Lac. Inga worked for many years as a secretary at the Lamartine Creamery and then 16 years as a secretary for Laborer’s Local 1086, Fond du Lac. During Labor Day she would help out with the picnics and during elections she could be found helping with phone banks.
Inga and Chuck enjoyed world travels. They also savored many bus trips across the United States where they met lifelong friends. Upon Inga’s retirement in 1986, they ventured to Texas where they became Winter Texans. In 2006, Chuck and Inga moved to North Fond du Lac after 55 years in Lamartine. In October of 2016, Inga relinquished her drivers license at the age of 92. “Life is a journey and this is a new one” she said.
Inga was an avid reader and especially loved her Milwaukee Brewers and Bob Uecker!
Inurnment will take place at Shrine of Rest Mausoleum alongside her husband Chuck of 65 years. A celebration of life will be held at later date.
