Iva E. Beau

April 27, 1916 — February 7, 2007

Iva Evelyn (Burger) Beau passed away on February 7, 2007, at Aspirus Hospice House in Wausau, WI. She was born to Walter and Hulda Henke Burger on April 27, 1916, in a house behind the birthplace of the Republican Party, which probably accounts for why she got along with her son-in-law so well. While a pre-schooler, a teacher roomed with the family and taught Iva to read at age 4. Her love of reading, learning, and teaching continued throughout her entire life. She met her musician husband Alois "A.J." Beau through friends and they married in Kenosha, WI on January 28, 1937. Together with their faith they survived many hardships and enjoyed many good times with family and friends. Twenty years after graduating from high school, Iva returned to school to fulfill her lifelong dream of becoming a teacher. She graduated from Marian College in 1962, and continued with classes until she completed her Masters of Science Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. She started her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse teaching grades 1-8, shoveling coal into the furnace, sweeping cobwebs out of the outhouses, and planning PTO meetings. She ended her career as a reading specialist with the North Fond du Lac School District in 1981. After retiring she continued learning and teaching her hobbies of spinning, weaving, and other textile arts. Whether living in Texas, Fond du Lac, Kenosha, Tomahawk, or Wausau, WI, she was a very active and faithful church member serving as Sunday and Vacation Bible School teacher, a council member, and most recently completing Lay Ministry School. She was a people person and an inspiration to many. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Beth and Rich Ament of Wausau, a daughter-in-law, Nel Beau-Lippert (Mark) of Waukesha, six grandchildren, Lisa Beau and her son Tyler, Tom Beau (Carrie) and their daughter, Alaina, Becci Ashenbach (Rick) and their sons, Thomas, Zachary, and Sam, and Adrianne, Jacob, and Breanne Ament, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Al, her son, Tom, a granddaughter, Debora Hansmann, her brother, Don Burger, and her sister, Lois Weber.
