Our beloved James Baker, 74, of Fond du Lac soared to the heavens on Friday evening, December 27, 2024. With shattered hearts, his most loving family was at his side to send him on his heavenly journey.
Jim was born September 23, 1950 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin to Edward and Maxine Baker. He grew up in numerous cities in his life and ended up in Bloomer, Wisconsin where he graduated from high school in 1969. He then moved to Cedarburg, Wisconsin and worked at Mercury Marine. It was then that he met his soulmate and best friend, Mary Dedolph. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1970. He and Mary married on April 10, 1971 and she joined him in Mannheim, Germany while he was serving in the 69th Transportation Company as company clerk. He was discharged from the Army in 1972. Upon discharge from the Army, he returned to his job at Mercury Marine as a CNC operator and they lived in West Bend, Wisconsin for 14 years. It was there that they had two precious children, Lea, his daughtsy and Kory, his hunting and fishing buddy. They moved to Fond du Lac, Wisconsin so he could continue working at Mercury Marine. He retired in 2012 after 43 years with the company.
Jim loved hunting and fishing with his family. Especially Kory, Don, John, Lisa, and Johnny G. in Bloomer and Raddison, Wisconsin. They had many special times together laughing, playing cards, and enjoying the outdoors he so loved. His hobby was woodworking and he was a skilled craftsman.
Jim is survived by his heartbroken family, wife, Mary; children, Lea and Kory; daughter-in-law, Tiffany; granddaughters, Morgann, Kendall, Avery, and Kyli; his brother, Don and his wife Pat; and his sister-in-law, Dawn; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Roger Kutz was his best buddy and Misty Mahoney was his most special sidekick pup. Know that Jim loved all of you to the moon and back. Preceding him in death were his parents, Maxine Harshman (George) and Edward (Dorothy) Baker; brothers, Charles aka Buz and William; sisters, Darlene (Leroy) and Judy.
A celebration of life will be held next summer.
Fly high my Jimmy. We will love you and miss you until we meet again.
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there, I do not sleep
I am a thousand winds that blow
I am the diamond glints on snow
I am the sunlight on ripened grain
I am the gentle autumn rain
When you awaken in the morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight
I am the soft stars that shine at night
Do not stand at my grave and cry
I am not there; I did not die.
