James J. Cieszynski, 79, of Fond du Lac, was welcomed into eternal life, on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at St. Francis Home. He was born on March 27, 1944, in Milwaukee, the son of Harold and Margaret (Nagy) Cieszynski. James served in the U.S. Army. He got his pilot’s license in 1991. He earned his pastoral license in North Dakota and was a chaplain for Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department and Kettle Moraine Correctional Institute. James liked going to nursing homes as a chaplain and helping funeral homes with various services over the years. He was a member of the Lion’s Club in Oak Creek WI. He had a passion for spreading the Lord’s word and that prompted him to become a missionary to the Ukraine. He loved going to the theater and loved spending time with his family. James loved multiple pets throughout his years. He didn’t go anywhere without his dog, “Buddy” who the community adored as well and the family would like to thank Betty who was a friend to Jim and Buddy throughout the years and will continue to take care of Buddy until he is ready to meet back with his best friend James.
James had many nick names. Pastor Jim, Jimmy, Uncle Bum, Dad, Gramps…But his favorite, he was called by his 4 Great Grandchildren, GG.
He is survived by a daughter, Kim Stier; three grandchildren, Patti Borom, Sarah (Ben) Adrian, and Micah Stier; four great grandchildren, Noah, Lincoln, Kylaine, and Jameson; sister, Candance Uecke; brother-in-law, Kenny Gapinski; two nieces, Jody and Jennifer; nephew, Bryan; and many other friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Cindie Gapinski.
A memorial service will be held on November 9, 2023, at 2:45 PM at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 21731 Spring Street, Union Grove, Wisconsin. Military Honors will follow the service. Cremation has taken place.
