James E. Gough, 87, formerly of W7134 Explorer Drive, North Fond du Lac, died Wednesday, November 17, 2010, at the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home where he had been a resident for the past two years. He was born March 22, 1923, in Fond du Lac, the son of James J. and Theresa V. Whitstone Gough. From March 3, 1941 to September 25, 1945, James served with the United States Navy aboard destroyers (Tin Cans) stationed in the Pacific Theatre, specifically in Pearl Harbor and Midway Island. On December 29, 1953, he married Lucille A. Mattson in Baltimore, MD. She preceded him in death on April 27, 1989. Mr. Gough was a lifelong member of Hope Lutheran Church and a member of the Men's Club, a member of Trier-Puddy American Legion Post #75, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. James owned and operated Beauty Rug and Carpet Cleaning business for 30 years, retiring in 1988. He was also custodian at the Winnebago County Court House from 1973 to 1988. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially fishing. Surviving is a daughter, Sheryl (William) Ganz of Waupun, two sons, Bradley (Elizabeth) Gough of Ft. Wayne, IN, and Stewart (Melinda) Gough of Fond du Lac, a stepson, Morris "Morrie" (Sandy) Kutchek of Wautoma, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He is further survived by two sisters, Betty Gough of Washington, DC, and Jean (Bill) Tinney of Reno, NV, two brothers, William Gough of St. Petersburg, FL, and Gerald Gough of Lincoln Court, CA, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. His parents, wife, a son, John in 1991, three sisters, Virginia Ryan, Pearl Sherman, and Joan Tinklenberg, preceded him in death.
Visitation for James E. Gough will be on Sunday, November 21, 2010, from 4 to 8 pm at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, and on Monday, November 22nd from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at Hope Lutheran Church, 260 Vincent Street, Fond du Lac. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM at the church on Monday. The Rev. Steven Huff will officiate. Burial will be in Estabrooks Cemetery.
