James Francis Hickey went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday May 16, 2013 with his loving, caring wife and family at his side at Hospice Home of Hope. James was born June 14, 1943 in Minneapolis, MN to his parents Francis and Henrietta Hickey. Jim graduated in 1961 from Horace Mann High School, North Fond du Lac. He loved all sports throughout his school years. He attended UW Oshkosh earning a letter in football. He married his wife, Jean Carrollo, September 14, 1991 at St. Louis Church, Fond du Lac, WI.Jim enjoyed watching his grandchildren playing sports and fishing with them. He also did gardening, playing cards and pool. Jim retired in 2007 after 40 years as a machinist from Giddings and Lewis. He was a member of the U.S. Army Reserve from 1964-1970.Jim was a member of Holy Family Catholic Parish and participated in the Church choir and served as a Eucharistic Minister at the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home for twenty years. He served in various capacities during the Parish Festival. James enjoyed serving the poor through Loaves and Fishes and Broken Bread. Together with his wife, he participated in Habitat for Humanity building homes for those in need. He volunteered at the Solutions Center, Fond du Lac and Fr Carr's Place 2 B, Oshkosh. James served as a Foster Care respite care provider for many children in his home. He served as a host to International students from China and Korea, who attended St. Mary's Springs High School for the school year. Jim and his wife, Jean enjoyed traveling with Tom's Christian Tours and also attended Married Couples Retreats at Oconomowoc for many years.Jim is survived by his loyal wife, Jean and his children, Julie, Janet and Ryan Hickey. He is further survived by his step children, Tom (Terri) Carrollo of Portland, Or., Christine (Stephen) Fields of Oshkosh, WI, A niece, Karen (Rob) Stroede, Sheboygan, WI; nephew, Colin (Laura) Hickey of Phoenix, Arizona, Brian (Christina) Richter, of Springfield, MO, niece, Heather Richter of Clinton, MO., nephew, Shaun Hickey, Oshkosh, WI and niece, Amanda (Luke) Griese, Oshkosh, WI. In addition, his very special grandchildren survive him, Austin, Hannah, Aaron Fields, and Midori Carrollo. His sister, Janet (Jerry) Richter, Warrensburg, MO., brothers, William (JoAnn), Horicon, WI, Thomas (Doreen) Milwaukee, WI, Gerald Hickey and friend, Nancy, Appleton, WI. He is further survived by brothers-in-law, Valentine (Deanna) Zibung, Valders, WI, Donald Zibung and sons Cory and Kyle; sisters-in-law, JoAnn (Mark) Mortensen, Richmond, VA, Mary (Patrick) Goebel, Mequon, WI. Nieces, nephews and many friends and relatives survive James. His Godmother and Aunt, Mary Wildenburg and Aunt Pat Culver survive their nephew, James.He was preceeded in death by his parents, Francis and Henrietta, his mother-in-law, Eleanor Zibung, father-in-law, Valentine Zibung, granddaughter, Kaitlyn Meyer, sister-in-law, Sue Zibung, and several aunts and unclesThe family of James wishes to sincerely thank the doctors, nurses, and care givers of Central Wisconsin Cancer Program, St. Agnes Hospital and Hospice of Fond du Lac for their dedication and compassion for his care. A memorial has been established in James' name.



Visitation: Tuesday, May 21, 2013, from 4 to 7 PM at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, 524 N. Park Avenue, Fond du Lac, and again on Wednesday, May 22nd from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at Holy Family Church, 271 4th Street Way, Fond du Lac. A Rosary will be recited at 10:30 AM on Wednesday prior to the Mass of Christian Burial.Services: A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at Holy Family Church, 271 4th Street Way, Fond du Lac. Per James' request cremation has taken place and inurnment of cremated remains will be in St. Charles Cemetery, Town of Taycheedah.
