James M. Carey

James M. Carey, of Fond du Lac, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Monday, September 13, 2021, at St. Agnes Hospital.



Jim was born in Fond du Lac on November 5, 1957, to Robert (Bob) and Betty Carey, the third child of the five they would have. Growing up, Jim enjoyed playing hockey and played for Goodrich High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served for 8 years. He was Military Police in the 709th Military Police Battalion and served in Germany, Korea, Japan, and Colorado. He made lifelong friends that he is able to call family through his years of service.



After returning home from the military, he met the love of his life, Joanne Rodenkirch. They married on October 18th, 1986. Jim and Joanne were blessed to have one child, a daughter Cassandra in 1988. Jim began his career as an over the road truck driver for JTL and Byrd Trucking companies. Jim worked for the past 31 years at Quad Graphics where he also met and made lifelong friends. He enjoyed gardening, yard work and caring for his family’s property in the country in his spare time. He also enjoyed the many years of bow and gun hunting with his buddy Jeff (rarely did he bring one home). Jim was loved by many for his sense of humor, and his willingness to help anyone in need.



He is survived by his wife, Joanne Carey and their daughter Caci (Joel) Brus of Iowa, along with one granddaughter Maclyn Brus. He is also survived by his siblings Margaret (Midge) Reinke, Bob Carey, Mike Carey, and John Carey, stepsisters Linda Lessner and Carolyn Bingham along with many in laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.



He is preceded in death by his dad, Robert Carey, his mom, Betty Carey (Glissendorf), and his father and mother-in-law Joseph and Marie Rodenkirch.



Visitation will be held on Friday, September 24, 2021, from 3:00 to 8:00 PM at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2021, at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Visitation will take place on Saturday at the funeral home at 10:00 AM until the time of services. Cremation will follow the visitation and burial will follow the service at Calvary Cemetery. Military graveside honors will take place at the cemetery.
