Jan A "Bucky" Myers

Jan A. "Bucky" Myers, 74, of Montello, WI, passed away on Saturday, January 31, 2009, at the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home, after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Two Rivers, WI on September 25, 1934, to Alvin and Ada Kahrs Myers. Bucky moved to Fond du Lac in 1950 with his parents. He graduated from the Fond du Lac Senior High School in 1952. On July 3, 1954, he married Floralee Ziegler and they celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2004. They had been married for 54 years. Bucky moved to Montello, WI in May of 1991, and set up their retirement home on 55 acres of what he called "God's" Country. Bucky enjoyed the outdoors and their new home. Bucky was very active in sports when he was in Fond du Lac. He played, coached, and managed many softball teams and played a lot of basketball. In 2002, Bucky was elected into the Fond du Lac Baseball Hall of Fame. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Montello, the Fond du Lac Eagles Aerie #270, the Fond du Lac Senior Center, Wings over WI-Eden Chapter, Montello Senior Dome, and the Marquette County/Montello AARP Chapter 4480, and was a member of AA groups in Montello, Westfield, Adams, and Portage until his health prevented him from attending meetings. He had 18 years of sobriety. Bucky is survived by his wife of 54 years of marriage, Floralee "Lee", a daughter, Barbara (Math) Beck of Montello, and a son, Steven Myers (Special Friend Denise Jacobson) of Fond du Lac. He is also survived by four grandchildren-John Beck of Milwaukee, Chelsey Myers, Makena Myers, and Jordan Myers, all of Fond du Lac. Other survivors are his brothers, James (Bettie) Myers of Two Rivers, WI, John (Special Friend Earline Ford) Myers of Hernandez, MS, and sisters Jeanne Zich of Sun Lakes, AZ, Janis Minaker of Two Rivers, WI, June Pipkin of North Fond du Lac, Jackie Nett of Fond du Lac, Judi (LeRoy) Walters of Fond du Lac, and Jamie Myers, also of Fond du Lac; his brothers-in-law, Jim Ziegler Sr. of Lomira, WI, Fred (Delila) Ziegler Jr. of North Fond du Lac, and Donald Ziegler, Sr. of North Carolina, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. Bucky was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Jay and Jerry, and many of his closest friends.



Visitation for Mr. Jan A. "Bucky" Myers will be from 3 to 6 pm on Wednesday, February 4, 2009, at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 6 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home. The Rev. Peter Zietlow will officiate and entombment will be in the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum, Ledgeview Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials be directed to the Cancer Center of Fond du Lac, the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home, Budda Box Cancer Center of Montello, or St. John's Lutheran Church in Montello in care of the family.
