Janet Mae Schwefel, 90, of Fond du Lac, died Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at her residence with family by her side. She was born on August 14, 1932, in Fond du Lac, the daughter of Frederick and Gertrude (Zickau) Glasser. Janet attended St. Peter’s grade school and graduated from Winnebago Lutheran Academy. On March 27, 1954, she married Jean D. Schwefel at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac. He preceded her in death on August 3, 2012. Janet worked side by side with Jean farming until 1972. She worked at St. Agnes Hospital as a Certified Nursing Assistant in the nursery taking care of countless newborns. She then went on to work in physical therapy as an aide and lastly worked as a patient sitter. Janet enjoyed flowers, gardening, walking, and being outdoors. She also enjoyed working with her son at the farmer’s market selling organic produce. Visiting Lakeside Park was one of her favorite places. She was a great cook and made the best muffins, rolls and apples pies. Janet’s greatest enjoyments were her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
She is survived by four children, Gary (Carol) Schwefel, David (Mylene) Schwefel, Sandra (Guy) Werner, and Daniel (Amy) Schwefel; ten grandchildren, Thomas (Holly) Schwefel, Tyler (Courtney) Schwefel, Jamie (Cody) Schoepke, Julie (Mike) Philippi, Eric Schwefel, Christine (Brian) Werner, Carl Werner, Jacob (special friend, Jackie and her daughter Mikiya) Schwefel, Jordan (Daniel) Lightle, and Jillian Schwefel; eleven great grandchildren, Kylie, Olivia, Madeline, Evelyn, Braydon, Cammi, Blaine, Reese, Sloan, Finn, and Ford; brothers-in-law, Jerry (Donna) Schwefel and David Nummerdor; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick and Gertrude; husband, Jean; father and mother-in-law, William and Sylvia (Lerch) Schwefel; sister, Karen Nummerdor; brother and sisters-in-law, Raymond (Barbara) Schwefel and Pat Schwefel.
The visitation will be held on Sunday, April 16, 2023, from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, North Fond du Lac and again on Monday, April 17, 2023, from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM. The funeral service will follow the visitation on Monday at 11:00 AM at church. Entombment will follow at Shrine of Rest Mausoleum, Ledgeview Memorial Park, Fond du Lac.
