Janice Mary Braun went to dwell in the house of the Lord on April 22, 2017.

Janice was born in Wood Lake, MN, on February 10, 1937, the daughter of Arnold and Elsie (nee Behr) Schmidt. She was baptized on March 21, 1937 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Posen Township, MN.



Janice attended St. John’s Lutheran School in Wood Lake, Dr. Martin Luther High School, and Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN. She was a teacher at St. John’s Lutheran School in Montello, WI, and St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Fort Atkinson, WI. She served as secretary to the president at Martin Luther Academy, New Ulm, MN, Martin Luther Preparatory School, Prairie du Chien, WI, and to the Dean of Students at Luther Preparatory School in Watertown, WI.



Janice married Pastor Jerome (Jerry) Braun in 1963 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Fort Atkinson, WI. Their marriage was blessed with four children.

Jerry and Janice lived in several congregations where Jerry served as either a pastor or a professor. Rural Belview and Seaforth, MN, Altura, MN, New Ulm, MN, Prairie du Chien, WI, Watertown, WI, Fredricksburg, TX, Mission, TX, and Fond du Lac, WI.



First and foremost Jan loved her family and friends and looked forward to their gatherings and to the five-sister annual reunions. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, playing bridge, and sewing. She served as a member of the Sunshine Girls at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Fond du Lac, WI, and participated in sewing clothing for boys and girls living in Haiti.



She is survived by her husband; four children, Jennifer (Richard) Muffler, Rockville, MD, James, South Milwaukee, WI, Joel (Lea) Alexander, AR, and Julia (John) Boggs, West Palm Beach, Florida. Grandchildren - Michael, Caleb, and Logan Braun, Allison, Jenna, Ryan, and Micah Boggs; four sisters, Marge Hewitt, Barb Smith, Nancy Darr, and Judy Wohlman; brothers-in-law, Pete Darr and Len Wohlman; sister-in-law, Betty McFarlane. Preceded in death by parents - Arnold and Elsie Schmidt, brother Dean Schmidt, brothers-in-law Roy McFarlane, Don Smith, and Gary Hewitt.



Visitation will take place on Saturday, April 29, 2017 from 1-3 PM at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 606 Forest Ave, Fond du Lac, WI, 54935. Funeral Service will follow at 3:00 PM at the church. Cremation will follow the traditional service.



In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Luther Preparatory School, 1300 Western Ave. Watertown, WI 53094-4814 indicating it for the Jerome and Janice Braun Scholarship Fund, or to Redeemer Lutheran Preschool Fund, 606 Forest Ave, Fond du Lac, WI, 54935.
