Janice Rasmussen

May 24, 1944 — February 27, 2025

Janice Rasmussen, 80, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 27, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 24, 1944 she was the eldest daughter of Raymond and Emily McElhatton, and sister to Dawn. Jan and Dawn grew incredibly close in their later years, especially after a trip to Branson, MO, where they shared an unforgettable time together. Jan graduated from LP Goodrich in 1962 and went on to work at AC Nielsen along with various office and retail positions.

In 1964, Jan married Patrick McCrory and together they had two children, Lisa and Brian. After their separation, she worked tirelessly as a single mother, always demonstrating resilience and a strong spirit. In the 1970s, she became a charter member of a singles chapter, where she also served as the activity director for several years. As her children grew older, Jan decided to pursue further education, earning her LPN degree from Moraine Park Technical College in 1984. Her family took great pride in her achievement.

In 1986, Jan married the love of her life, Neil Rasmussen. Together, they shared a love for travel, often enjoying bus trips to casinos, dining out, seeing live music and dancing. They could often be found cruising around town and through the park on their mopeds. Jan also had a lifelong passion for reading, which she lovingly passed down to her daughter and granddaughters. She also cherished her lunch dates with her best friends, Carol and Gloria, where they would catch up and enjoy each other’s company. She had another treasured friendship with Betty who knew her since Kindergarten, they would have long phone conversations each week as she lived in Texas. She will be missed by so many dear friends.

Jan is survived by her daughter, Lisa (Dave) Kraft; grandchildren, Meghan Kraft (Justin), Emily Kraft (Noah), Stephanie McCrory (Ryan), and Brittany McCrory; her sister, Dawn (Tom) Schultz; and great-granddaughter, Ella Stehli; step-children, Susan (Tom Hartman) Wilderman, Cindy (Brent) Ramsey, Terre Mand, and Thomas Rasmussen; step-grandchildren, Emily (Luca Ventre) Wilderman, Sara (Craig) Wilderman-Hampton, Nicholas Ramsey, Erika Mand, Tony Mand, Stephanie (Kevin) Py, Adam (Franziska) Mand; and step-great grandchildren, Jayda and Briea Mand, Paysen Ramsey, and Leo Mand. Jan is also survived by her cockatiel, Chipper, who provided her with comfort and company in her later years. She is now reunited with her beloved husband, Neil, and her son, Brian, along with other family and friends who preceded her.

The family extends a special thank you to the St. Agnes ICU and Emergency Department doctors and nurses for their care and compassion given to Janice over the last year.
