Jerome J. "Jerry" Schmitz

Jerome J. "Jerry" Schmitz, 76, of St. Peter, died Thursday, March 11, 2010, at his residence. He was born September 2, 1933, in the Town of Taycheedah, the son of William and Florence Freund Schmitz. On April 23, 1955, he married Joan Stephanie at St. Peter's Catholic Church, St. Peter. Jerry was a member of Holy Family Parish-St. Peter, the Holy Name Society, the St Joseph Society, was a former director of the St. Peter Athletic Club, and belonged to the We Love To Dance Club. He and his wife farmed in the Town of Taycheedah until his retirement in 1997. After his retirement, he worked part-time at Hansen's BP in Fond du Lac. Jerry enjoyed going to the casinos. He was a veteran of the US Navy from 1955 to 1957. Surviving is his wife, Joan, two daughters, Ann Pickart of St. Peter, and Julie (Lee) Hansen of St. Peter, five sons, Edward R. Schmitz of St. Peter, John (Dee) Schmitz of Fond du Lac, Paul (Patty) Schmitz of St. Peter, Don (Sherri) Schmitz of Fond du Lac, and Rick Schmitz of Fond du Lac, nine grandchildren, and one great-grandson. He is further survived by three brothers, Orlando (Marge) Schmitz of St. Peter, Elmer (Julitta) Schmitz of Fond du Lac, and Gerald (Bernice) Schmitz of St. Peter, a sister-in-law, Lillian Schmitz of Fond du Lac, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. His parents, a son, Joseph, two brothers, Clarence and Louis, a son-in-law, Harvey Pickart, and a sister-in-law Frieda Schmitz, preceded him in death.



Visitation for Jerome J. "Jerry" Schmitz will be on Sunday, March 14, 2010, from 4 to 8 pm at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, and on Monday, March 15th, from 9:30 to 10:30 am at St. Peter's Church, Cty WH, St. Peter. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am at the church on Monday. The Rev. Robert Siefvater will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery.
