Jerome L. Steffes, 68, of North Fond du Lac, passed away from leiomyosarcoma cancer on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at his residence with his wife Elizabeth and his special sister Eloise at his side. He was born May 5th, 1954, in Fond du Lac, the son of Charles and Veronica (Wettstein) Steffes. Jerome retired after 42 years from Mercury Marine. On June 1, 2001, he married Elizabeth Prickett Carlson in Fond du Lac. Jerome and Elizabeth just celebrated 21 years of marriage together but have been a couple for over 35 years. Jerome loved life and lived it his way. In his early years he and his wife liked to bike the trails and he loved to ride his Cannondale bike to work and he loved to run in marathons and also ran for fun. Jerome liked to drive around Lakeside Park, visit the dog park with his dog Charlie Ann “Chuck”, he loved listening to classic rock, especially The Doors and Tom Petty. Jerome had a love of nature, gardening, especially his rhubarb, his willow tree, and his dogs: Taylor, Morgan and Charlie Ann “Chuck”. He loved his Bud, Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packers.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; daughter, Josie (Dave) Roberts of Cleveland, OH; son, Jerrod (special friend Erika) Steffes of Phoenix, AZ; daughter, Lee (Andee) Van Derel, of Fond du Lac; granddaughters Reese and Carley; and great granddaughter Adisson; siblings, Jean Van Deraa of Fond du Lac, Louis Steffes Sr. of Fond du Lac, Eloise (Erhardt)Wowerat of Oakfield, Joseph (Tina) Steffes of LaGrange, KY, and Ann Burg of Gold Canyon, AZ; mother-in-law, Janel Pricket, who he loved dearly and referred to her as Ma; brothers-in-law, Guy (Cecilia) Prickett and Craig (Kim) Prickett of Fond du Lac; Kathy (Dennis) Schuppe of North Fond du Lac; special niece, Trish Santaromana; honorary sister; Carol Carlson of Fond du Lac; special friends, Mike Toth, Brian Vogds, Gary Bader, Bob Lang, Jim Dalle Nogare (The Rev); and many other nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Veronica; father-in-law, Keith Prickett; sisters, Edith Trepanier, Judith Beattie, and Lois Kluza; brother Edward Steffes, Sr.; brothers-in-law, Gerald Van Deraa and Roland Trepanier; and sister-in-law, Susan Steffes.
A private family celebration will take place at a later date. Cremation has taken place.
