Joan M. Cunningham, 70, of Fond du Lac, died after an extended battle with cancer on Monday, January 15, 2024, at St. Agnes Hospital. She was born on May 26, 1953, in Fond du Lac, the daughter of Norbert and Valaria (Patt) Grebe. On November 27, 1976, Joan married Paul Cunningham at St. Mary’s Church in Fond du Lac. Joan graduated from St. Mary Springs High School and later earned a bachelor’s degree from Marian University.
Joan was the proud co-owner of Schreiner’s Restaurant and Bernie’s Pub. She was a member of Charity Club, PEO, Soroptimist Club, Agnesian Foundation board, Hospice Hope Cancer Care Charity Open committee, and a trustee of the Wisconsin Restaurant Association Political Action Committee. She was a published author of Murder Unincorporated and contributed to the Fond du Lac Sesquicentennial book. In her spare time, Joan loved to travel with Paul, especially to Walt Disney World and Door County where she enjoyed her love of pinot grigio on the rocks, supper clubs and dive bars. She was an avid book reader, puzzler, pin collector, keen observer of human nature, and creator of stained glass art. Joan’s greatest love was for her family. She always had a smile on her face and cherished every moment spent as the beloved Grammy to her three grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Paul; two daughters, Marcia (Nate) Haupt and Sheila (Vinh) Tran; three grandchildren, Meagan Haupt, Addison and Bailey Tran. She was preceded in death by her parents, Norbert and Valaria; and father and mother-in-law, Francis A. and Mildred E. (Brietzke) Cunningham.
