Joan L. Christ

Joan L. Christ, 90, passed away Monday, February 3, 2014 at St. Agnes Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Mt. Calvary on October 1, 1923, the daughter of John and Johanna (Rieder) Abler. Joan attended Holy Cross Catholic School. On August 24, 1946, she married Leroy Christ at Holy Cross Church in Mt. Calvary. Joan will be remembered as a very friendly woman with a great attitude that touched many lives. She was always up for an adventure and willing to try anything. Joan loved to travel and this love took her and Leroy throughout Europe. Even after his death, and into her 80's, she continued to travel, many times with her good friend Dorothy Darch. She visited such faraway places as China (even walking the Great Wall!), Hong Kong, Paris, Greece, Ireland, Turkey, Spain and the state of Alaska. Besides traveling, she dabbled in pottery, was active in the Senior Center, loved to play cards, especially her Bridge Marathons, was a member of the community chorus, the Daughters of Isabella and the Lady Elks.Joan worked at St. Agnes Hospital for many years in surgery, working as the scheduler. She also spent a number of years working at the Fond du Lac Court House. Even in retirement, Joan remained active as a volunteer in Agnesian Gift Shop. Joan is survived by one son, Leroy "Rick" (Mary) Christ of Cedar Falls, IA and one daughter, Brenda (Frank) Gosein of Eden. She is further survived by her older sister, Hilda Shepro (105), a brother-in-law, Harold Huberty, and a sister-in-law, Bonnie Christ, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and six siblings; Edwin, Leander, Clem, Gilbert, Gregor, and Lorraine Huberty.



A visitation for Joan will be held Thursday, February 6, 2014 from 4-8PM at the Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, 524 N. Park Ave., Fond du Lac and again on Friday, February 7, 2014 from 1-2PM at Holy Family Church, 271 4th St. Way, Fond du Lac. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2PM Friday, following the visitation. Burial will follow in Ledgeview Memorial Park.
