Joan M. Sonnenberg

Joan M. Sonnenberg, of Fond du Lac, died Saturday, August 19, 2017 at St. Agnes Hospital. She was born in Fond du Lac, the daughter of Earl and Elsie (Pickart) Sonnenberg. Joan served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. She graduated from Marian College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. Joan was a RN at St. Agnes Hospital for over thirty years until retiring in 2006. She has been involved in Loaves and Fishes, St. Vincent de Paul, and the Salvation Army. She enjoyed traveling and bowling.



Survivors include her sister, Kathy Smeilis; her brother, Ken Sonnenberg; one niece, Sarah Scharf; four nephews, John Scharf, Peter Smeilis, Christopher Smeilis, and Patrick Smeilis; one brother-in-law, Gerald Scharf; her best friend, Mort Downey; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; infant twin sister, Jean; younger sister, Nancy J. Scharf; brother-in-law, Bill Smeilis.



Visitation will take place on Thursday, August 24, 2017 from 4-6 PM at Holy Family Church-Holy Family, 271 4th ST. Way, Fond du Lac, WI, 54935. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at the church at 6:00 PM. Entombment will take place on Friday, August 25, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Chapel of the Risen Christ Mausoleum, Calvary Cemetery. Trier-Puddy American Legion Post #75 will conduct military graveside honors at the church following the service.
