John A. "Jack" Putman

John "Jack" A. Putman 88, of Fond du Lac, died at St. Agnes Hospital on Tuesday, March 16, 2010. Jack was born in Chicago on November 28, 1921, to James and Ethlyn Pinkley Putman. He served in the US Navy in World War II. He was a graduate and proud alumnus of the University of Illinois. He received His Masters Degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He always said he was a Badger Fan except when they played Illinois. He married Shirley Ann Kratz in Slinger, Wisconsin On August 23, 1944. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this past August. They moved to Fond du Lac in 1947. Jack was a Social Studies teacher and Department Head for thirty-seven and a half years at Goodrich High School (now Fond du Lac High). He started and coached the High School Baseball Program. During his years at Goodrich he was also a football and basketball referee. Jack was very active in the community. He was a founding Member of American Political Items Collectors of America in 1945. He was a past president of the Exchange Club, was a member of the Elks Club, was a volunteer at St. Agnes Hospital, delivered Meals on Wheels, and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.Jack was an avid sports fan, he enjoyed playing cards, golfing, bowling, reading, and traveling. He is survived by his wife Shirley, his children, Gregory John Putman of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, Pamela Ann Putman of Lake Alfred, Florida, and James Edwin (JoAnn) Putman of Neenah, WI, his grandchildren Paul (Eric Dicken) Putman, Jennifer (Rick) Arnold, Andrew (Allison Cree) Putman, Cindee Case, Jennifer Namsick, Douglas Case, Jason Putman, Joanna Putman, Alyssa (Yaniv) Lusky, and Christina Putman and Great grandchildren Ashley, Kaelan, Charles, Alonnah, and Alannah. He is further survived by a sister Donna (Dennis) Moreland of Marshall, TX, four sister-in-laws, Agnes Doubleday of Hartford, WI, Mary Margret Klink of Rubicon, WI, Patricia Kratz of Las Cruces, NM, and Jean Kratz of Iowa City, IA. His parents and a daughter-in-law, Barbara Putman, preceded him in death.



Visitation for Mr. John A. "Jack" Putman will be on Thursday, March 18, 2010, from 4 to 8 pm at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, and again on Friday, March 19th from 9:30 to 10:30 am at Sacred Heart Church, 232 S. Peters Avenue. Mass of Christian Burial will at 10:30 at the church on Friday. Entombment will be in the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum, Ledgeview Memorial Park Cemetery. A memorial has been established in Jack's name.
