John D. Bickelhaupt

John D. Bickelhaupt, 94, of Fond du Lac, died Monday, December 29, 2014 at St. Agnes Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born December 2, 1920 in Staceyville, IA, the son of Henry and Anna Fink Bickelhaupt. John was a veteran of World War II serving in the US Marine Corp 2nd Division in the Pacific Theatre. On October 25, 1941 he married Ethel M. Wolf at Immanuel Trinity Lutheran Church and she preceded him in death on December 5, 2010. John was a welder/fabricator and retired from the Soo Line Railroad in 1982. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. John enjoyed fishing, woodworking, camping, traveling, spending winters in Arizona, and loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. John was a hard working, kind, compassionate, witty man with a great sense of humor even to the end. He was a wonderful loving father and grandfather.



He is survived by three sons, Dennis Bickelhaupt, Oshkosh, Larry (Maxine) Bickelhaupt, Phelps, WI, Howard (Barbara) Bickelhaupt, Chino Valley, AZ; three daughters, Barbara (John) Leitner, Beaver Dam, Bonnie (Al) Schneider, Chandler, AZ, Nancy (Randy) Jagow, Fond du Lac; 16 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Donald Moore, Fond du Lac and Forrest Wolf, Lamartine; two sisters-in-law, Gloria (Nick) Romalia, Fond du Lac and Fern Wolf, Marquette, MI; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ethel; seven brothers, infant Johann, Phil, Gottlieb, Charles, Fred, Edward, and Robert; four sisters, infant Sophia Marie, Linda Landreman-Beyer, Katherine Schaeffer, and Dorothy Moore.



The visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 pm on Friday, January 2, 2015 at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home and again from 10:00 – 11:00 am Saturday at church. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 606 Forest Avenue, Fond du Lac with Rev. James Borgwardt officiating. Burial will follow in Estabrooks Cemetery with military graveside services conducted by American Legion Post #75.



Memorials can be directed to Redeemer Lutheran Church in John’s name.
