John E. Kelly, 84, of Fond du Lac, passed away Monday, January 13, 2014 with his family at his side. He was born April 8, 1929 in Fond du Lac, the son of Eugene and Kathryn (Dalton) Kelly and was raised in Byron. He served his country in the US Army from 1955-1957, having been stationed in Ft. Leonard Wood, MO and Korea. On June 6, 1964, John married Dolores C. Schmitz in St. Peter, WI. John worked at J.E. Burke Playground Equipment, Rueping Leather Co. and for the Fond du Lac School System, retiring as a Custodian in 1999. In addition, he also bartended at the Knights of Columbus Hall and at Club 49. He was a life-long member of Holy Family Catholic Community, VFW-Oakfield Post 8092, Knights of Columbus of Fond du Lac; 3rd and 4th Degree Knight, and the St. Joseph Society of Fond du Lac. John enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.Survivors include his three children, Kathryn (Steve) Butzen, Sharon (Tony) Michels, and Patrick (Kay Guelig) Kelly, six grandchildren; Erin and Collin Fitzpatrick, Kristi and Sean Michels, Breanna and Nicholas Kelly, one great-grandchild; Everett Michels, one nephew; Michael Schwartz, one niece; Maureen Kennedy, special friend; Rose Hamburg, three brothers-in-law; Lester (Cecilia) Schmitz, Eugene (Mae) Schmitz, John J. Schmitz, and one sister-in-law; Lillian (James) Foote. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two sisters; Mary Margaret and his twin, Imogene Schwartz. A visitation for John will be held Thursday, January 16, 2014 from 4-8PM at the Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, 524 N. Park Ave, Fond du Lac and again on Friday, January 17, 2014 from 10-11AM at Holy Family Church, 271 4th St. Way, Fond du Lac. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, January 17, 2014 at 11AM at the church. Entombment will follow at the Chapel of the Risen Christ Mausoleum, Calvary Cemetery, Fond du Lac with military honors presented by the VFW "“ Oakfield Post #8092.
