John A. Hilt

August 7, 1951 — January 2, 2024

John A. Hilt, 72, of Malone, passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2024.  He was born August 7, 1951 in Fond du Lac, the son of Gregory and Walburga (Fritz) Hilt.  John served in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1970 – 1976.  He worked for Mercury Marine for 43 years until his retirement in May of 2015.  John was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Johnsburg and American Legion Abler-Engel Post 454.

 

He enjoyed sturgeon spearing, deer hunting, working in his yard, going out to eat, casino trips, and loved spending time with his four grandsons and watching them play baseball.

 

He is survived by his three daughters, Jessica Hilt, Jamie (Jeffrey) Lodes, and Janelle (Adam) King; four grandsons, Colin, Chase, Abram, and Landon King; sister, Barbara O’Brien; brother, Robert (Bonnie) Hilt; sister-in-law, Claire Hilt; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gregory “Fritz” Hilt; brother-in-law, Thomas O’Brien; and nephew, Terry O’Brien.

 

The visitation will be held Wednesday, January 10, 2024 from 2:00 – 6:00 PM at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home.  The memorial service will follow at 6:00 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home.  Cremation has taken place.

 

The family extends a thank you to John’s friends and neighbors for their help over the years, especially with the recent house fire.   Also a special thank you to the Bertram family for recently opening their home to him.
