John J. Salchert

Mr. John J. Salchert, 96, formerly a resident of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin died November 2, 2005 in Mobile, AL.Mr. Salchert was born Nov. 20, 1908 in Fond du Lac a son of John H Salchert and Alma Hardt Salchert. On Sept. 23, 1933 he married Seviah (Sally) Morse at St. Mary's Church. He was a former member of Sacred Heart Church and employed by the Commonwealth Reporter for 51 years. For ten years he was the treasurer of the Reporter Credit Union.From 1945 to 1976 he was an officer of the Trades and Labor Council of Fond du Lac and Vicinity (Labor Temple). For most of those 31 years he was secretary general and a delegate. In 1948 he was appointed to serve on the Mayor's Advisory Committee planning the Youth Center set up. In the 60's he served on the ADVOCAP board in Fond du Lac. This board handled the city's community action program. In 1976 he was honorary grand marshal in the FdL Labor Day parade. After retiring he and his wife moved to Ellenton, FL. Since 1998 Mr. Salchert has been living in Mobile, AL near his daughter, S. Jean Salchert.He was preceded in death by his wife, Seviah, one son, Judson; his brother Reinhart, and four sisters, Gertrude Campbell, Genevieve, Alma Salchert, and Grace Dregar. Survivors include two sons Brian of Gainesville, FL and James of Madison, WI; two daughters Priscilla Burnett of Springfield, MO and S. Jean of Mobile, Al. There are also four grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren; and a very good friend, John Miller.



Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 4th at Little Flower Church in Mobile, Al. Cremation has taken place and burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in FdL, WI. at a later date. In Lieu of flowers direct memorials to The Catholic Service Center at 555 Dauphen St. Mobile, Alabama 36602.Uecker-Witt Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
