John Joseph Roehl, loving husband, father, grandfather, and father-in-law died on December 4, 2022, at SSM Health Hospice Home of Hope after a short battle with cancer.
Born on July 23, 1948, he was the son of the late Harold and Dorothy (Stubbe) Roehl. He attended Campbellsport High School before being drafted in 1968. John was a sergeant first class for the 9th Infantry of the Army. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he earned several medals, including a Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged in 1970.
John worked in the metal fabrication industry. Showing his strong work ethic, he obtained a degree from Moraine Park Technical College as an Industrial Engineering Technician and a Bachelor of Science degree from Marian University in Operations Management while working full time. He retired from Rumar Manufacturing in 2012.
After retirement John found his passion volunteering at Free Spirit, now known as Rawhide. Seeing the excitement and smiles on the faces of children and adults with disabilities participating in the therapeutic horse-riding program was both emotional and rewarding for him.
Family was number one in John’s life. He was a proud grandpa to his four grandchildren, he enjoyed attending all of their extracurricular activities. He always looked forward to the annual family camping trip to Wisconsin Dells. John stayed busy and active golfing, shooting pool, biking, cruising in the corvette, hunting, fishing, woodworking, and spending time at Kusel Lake.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 52 years Kathy (Lloyd) Roehl, his children Joseph (Renee) Roehl of Little Chute, Christine (Michael) Serembiczky of Menomonee Falls, as well as grandchildren, Olivia and Anna Roehl and Ethan and Ava Serembiczky. Siblings, Betty Gieseke of Sheboygan and Charles (Lori) Roehl of St. Cloud. Mother-in-law Jeanette Lloyd. He is also survived by many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents John was preceded in death by his sister Coriene Leon; brothers, Harold, Robert and William Roehl; father-in-law, Thomas Lloyd; brothers-in-law, Frank Leon, Ed Gieseke, James Lloyd, Rick Butz, sisters-in-law, Mary Lloyd and Diane Sosinski.
The visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, from Noon until 2:00 PM at Holy Family Catholic Church, 271 Fourth St Way, Fond du Lac, WI, 54935. The funeral service will follow the visitation on Tuesday at the church at 2:00 PM. Entombment will take place at Chapel of the Risen Christ Mausoleum, Calvary Cemetery, 686 Fond du Lac Ave. Military graveside honors will take place at the mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in John’s name to Old Glory Honor Flight, 4650 W. Spencer Street, Appleton, WI 54914. John was scheduled to go on the honor flight on July 29, 2022. His health at that time didn’t allow him to travel, but he would like to make it possible for someone else to have the chance to see Washington DC and visit the memorial in their honor. A memorial will also be established in the Remembrance Garden at SSM Health Hospice Home of Hope, donations can be sent to 400 County Road K, Fond du Lac, WI 54937.
