John K. DeLap, 72, of Fond du Lac, died Friday, January 16, 2015 at St. Agnes Hospital. He was born March 5, 1942 in Oshkosh, the son of Leon and Lorraine Funk DeLap. John was raised by his mother and stepfather Irv Velie. John served in the U.S. Army from August 1960 to May 1962. On October 5, 1963 he married RaeJean Hall in Waukegan, IL. John worked for Rueping Leather until 1973 when he began his career as a welder with Mercury Marine, retiring in 2002. He was a member of Lighthouse Anglers and Sheboygan Area Great Lakes Sport Fisherman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, long drives and visiting with people. He will be remembered for saying, “John DeLap, the fishin magician and my mission is fishin.”
He is survived by his wife, RaeJean; one son, Timothy (Jerrae) DeLap of Fond du Lac; one daughter, Doreen (Scott) Doleshaw of Fond du Lac; four grandchildren, Jasmine, Jade, Jordan, and Joshua; one great grandson, Emerson. He is further survived by his siblings, Kathleen (Henry) Irizarry, Wayne (Sue) DeLap, William DeLap, all of Fond du Lac, Allen (Shirley) Velie of Milwaukee, Dennis (Jeanne) Velie of Florida, and Joye (Dan) Stafford of Oakfield; brothers and sisters-in-law, Pat Langacker, Ralph Hall, Sara (Pete) Schwartz, Marlene (Bob) Thinnes, all of Fond du Lac, Dan Denslow of Green Lake, and Donna DeLap of Fond du Lac; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather; two brothers, Lee DeLap and Willard DeLap; one sister, Lois Denslow; sister-in-law, Joan Hall; brothers-in-law, Peter Hall and Harold Langacker.
The visitation will be held from 3:00 – 6:00 pm on Monday, January 19, 2015 at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held at 6:00 pm on Monday, January 19, 2015 at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. Private entombment will take place in Shrine of Rest Mausoleum, Ledgeview Memorial Park.
