John Pothas, 87, of Fond du Lac, died Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at Harbor Haven Health & Rehabilitation Center. He was born February 9, 1925, the son of Nicklolas and Athanasia Koumodouros Pothas. John was a graduate of Fond du Lac High School and served in the US Army in the European Theatre during WW II. On September 5, 1954, he married Doris Hilt in Fond du Lac. He was a member and past council member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. John was formerly employed by Giddings & Lewis for 21 years as an inspector, retiring in 1987. During and after his retirement, he worked at Journeyman Machine. He was a member of Local 1402 IAM from 1966 to 1975, Trier-Puddy American Legion Post #75, and Eagles Aerie #270. Surviving is his wife, Doris, a daughter, Athanasia "Kay" (Michael) Knutson of Fond du Lac, two grandchildren, Eric (Fiancé' Kendra Weir) Knutson of Waupaca, and Amy Knutson of Fond du Lac. Also surviving are nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Gus and George Pothas, and four sisters, Mary Barba, Helen Scudella, Penny Lapinski, and Leona Bindert.
Visitation for John Pothas will be on Thursday, June 21, 2012, from 4 to 8 PM at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, and on Friday, June 22nd from 9 to 10 AM at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 198 N. Macy Street, Fond du Lac. Funeral services will be at 10 AM on Friday at the church. Rev. Peter Pappademetriou will officiate and entombment will be in the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum, Ledgeview Memorial Park Cemetery. Trisaigon services will be at 7 PM Thursday evening at the funeral home.
