John R. Coon

John R. Coon, Jr. age 90 formerly of 352 East Merrill Avenue and a resident of St. Francis Terrace for the past 3 years died Friday, February 26, 2010 at his residence. He was born in Fond du Lac on August 10, 1919 the son of John R. and Mary Shaw Coon, Sr. On September 22, 1943 he married Alice L. Lotzer at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Alice preceded him in death on September 7, 2004. He was a graduate of Fond du Lac High School. A veteran of World War IIserving in the U.S. Army. He owned and operated Coon's Grocery and later went to work as a clerk for the U.S. Postal Service in Fond du Lac. He was a member of Holy Family "“St. Mary's Parish, serving as an usher, communion distributor and was a member of the Holy Name Society.John was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #664. He enjoyed coin and stamp collecting, riding his bicycle built for two with his wife and walking.SURVIVORS: a son; John (Janet) Coon, III, Fond du Lac, two daughters; Kathy (Les) Stueber, North Fond du Lac, Mary (Jerry) Snider, Fond du Lac, a daughter-in-law, Debbie Coon, North Fond du Lac ten grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren. He is further survived by a sister Betty Meyer, Fond du Lac, three brother-in-laws; George Waehler, Fond du Lac, Robert Lotzer, Marshfield, Donald Lotzer, Hartford, a sister-in-law, Mary Coon, Menomonee Falls, and nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son Tom, two brothers; Robert and David.



VISITATION: Friends may call on Monday, March 1, 2010 from 12:30 to 1:30 PM at the St. Francis Home Chapel, 33 Everett Street, Fond du Lac. FUNERAL: A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:30PM at the chapel. Reverend Joseph Wolf OFM, Cap. will officiate. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of The Risen Christ Mausoleum, Calvary Cemetery. Trier-Puddy American Legion Post No. 75 will conduct military services.Memorials appreciated to Holy Family, St. Mary's Springs, H.O.P.E.S., Literacy Services of Wisconsin, JDRF."Special thanks to the staff of St. Francis Terrace and Hospice for their care and compassion."Uecker-Witt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
