John W. Drehmel, 90, formerly of 871 S. Main Street, died Thursday, May 31, 2007, at the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home, where he had been a resident for the past four years. He was born September 27, 1916, in Eden, the son of August and Emma Pitz Drehmel. On July 26, 1947, he married Evelyn Rose Spang in Fond du Lac. She preceded him in death on February 13, 2001. Mr. Drehmel was a member of Church of Our Saviour Evangelical Lutheran for 65 years, and was a former usher. He was formerly employed by Western Lime and Cement of Marblehead for 37 years, retiring in 1981. John was a veteran of the US Army serving in the European Theater during WW II, specializing as a demolition expert. He loved hunting and fishing.Surviving is a son, Robert (Margaret) Drehmel of Fond du Lac, three daughters; Shirley (Jeff) Hiley of Fond du Lac, Clara "Tootie" (Tom) Waldschmidt of Allenton, and Gladys "Micki" (Glen) Gade of Eden, 16 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren. His parents, wife, two sons, Richard and John Jr., and two daughters, Eleanor Valentino, and Mary Lou Drehmel preceded him in death.
Visitation for Mr. John W. Drehmel will be on Saturday, June 2, 2007, from 9 to 10:30 am at Church of Our Saviour Evangelical Lutheran. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am at the church on Saturday. The Rev. Bruce Pangborn will officiate and burial will be in the Empire Cemetery, Town of Empire. A memorial has been established in Mr. Drehmel's name.
