Joseph C. “Joe” Pufahl, 60, of North Fond du Lac, passed away on July 4, 2017 at Agnesian Hospice Home of Hope in Fond du Lac.
Joe was born in Fond du Lac to Ben & Marge (Grebe) Pufahl. He graduated from St. Mary’s Springs High School in 1975. He further attended North Dakota State University to play football. He married Christine (Freund) on April 24th, 1982 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Johnsburg.
Joe was the third generation to work at Wisconsin Central/Canadian National Railroad for 27 years. He would always ride his bike to work regardless if it was raining or snowing. Also following in his father’s footsteps, he became a volunteer firefighter for over 25 years with the NFDL Fire Department ending his term as Assistant Chief. During his time, he received an award for going 90 calls without a missed call.
Joe’s passion was sports. In his younger years, you could find him playing on any basketball court, baseball diamond or football field. Then, it turned into watching any kind of sport on T.V. so he could continue his competitive spirit. We all knew that Sundays were for football. Every year he looked forward to continuing his tradition of deer hunting at the Goedderz Hunting Camp.
Joe is survived by his wife, Christine; daughters, Nicole (Nick) Lange and Amy (Tim) Kunes; grandchildren, Emilia Jo and grandson due July 29th; four-legged friend, Bailey; sister, Sandy (John) Bruskewitz; sisters-in-law, Eileen (Joe) Kraus and Marian (Steve) Critchley; brother-in-law, Rob (Sue) Freund; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Michelle; parents, Ben & Marge Pufahl; mother-in-law & father-in-law, Robert & Evelyn Freund; brother, Butch Pufahl; and four-legged friends, Addy & Maggie.
Our family would like to thank the doctors and nurses on 4 south at St. Agnes and Hospice Hope for the loving care they gave Joe. Also, a special thank you to NFDL EMS. Joe loved being a fireman and to have the wonderful crews transport him to St. Agnes & Hospice Hope, he would have been proud of the NFDL EMS & Fire crew.
Your greatest love was your girls and you would do anything for us. We will love you forever.
See you when I see you! Love you Papa!
