Joseph L. Janzen, 92, a longtime resident of Fond du Lac died with his family at his side on Monday, August 6, 2012 at St. Agnes Hospital. Joe was born on November 8, 1919 in Fond du Lac, WI, the son of Fred and Anna Penning Janzen. He graduated from St. Mary's grade school in 1933 and Goodrich High School in 1937. Joe married Ruth E. Bixby in 1942 at St. Mary's Church, his loving wife of 70 years. Joe was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1944 "“ 1946. He was employed at the Shipyards in Sturgeon Bay, then worked at Manowski Welding Company. He also taught welding at MPTC. After retirement he worked as a shuttle driver for Holiday Olds. Joe was a baseball pitcher in his younger years. He also played basketball in the leagues around Fond du Lac. He played golf in the Wednesday business men's league. Joe enjoyed watching the Packers and the Brewers.SURVIVORS: his wife, Ruth; two children, Bonnie (Steve) Georg and Joe (Paulette Rocklewitz) Janzen, all of Fond du Lac; seven grandchildren, Michael (Julie) Georg, Suzanne (Scott) Boal, Mark (Jen) Georg, Matt (Mary) Georg, Christine (Alex) Zantiny, Lori (Ted) Namur, and Aaron Rocklewitz; fourteen great grandchildren, Patrick and Audrey Georg, Dylan Boal, Colin, Ryan, Evan and Chloe Georg, Halley, Mia and Ava Georg, Catherine and Peter Zantiny, Anna and Charles Namur. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother; a sister-in-law; a nephew and a niece.Joe was a quiet man, but the people who knew him appreciated his sense of humor. He took pleasure in his hobbies which included woodworking. He was always available to build or repair any projects. Joe loved his grandchildren and great- grandchildren and taught them many of the aspects of life. The family extends a special thank you to his caregivers for their care and compassion in the last few weeks of his life.



VISITATION: will be from 4 "“ 7 PM on Thursday, August 9, 2012 at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home and again on Friday from 9 "“ 10:30 AM at the funeral home. The Liturgy of the Word Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, August 10, 2012 at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home with Deacon Ricardo Munoz officiating. Cremation has taken place and inurnment will be held at St. Charles Cemetery.Uecker-Witt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
