Judith M. “Judy” Schmitz, 65, of Malone, Wis., died at her home on Sunday, October 25, 2015 surrounded by her family and dear friends. She had courageously fought cancer for the past 18 months. Judy was born in Fond du Lac, Wis. on March 23, 1950, a daughter of Corbin and Bernadine (Ludwig) Gerner. On March 1, 1969, she married Paul Schmitz at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fond du Lac.
Judy loved to spend time with her grandchildren as well as shopping with her close friend, Mary. She was passionate about reading, playing golf, puzzles on her iPad, camping with family and friends, bingo and going to the casinos. She was a huge Packers fan as well. Judy worked as an Administrative Assistant for many years; recently at Mercury Marine for over a decade. She loved her time as a volunteer at the St. Agnes Hospital gift shop, where she continued to help even while fighting her own battle against cancer.
Judy is survived by her husband of 46 years, Paul; 2 children, Wendy (Brian) Scheer and Bob (Michelle); 7 grandchildren, Kendra and Austin Schmitz, Alyssa and Dylan Blumenstein, Alex, Blake and Abby Scheer; 1 sister, Joyce (Mark) Spanbauer; 2 brothers, James (Nancy) Gerner and Joseph (Kathy) Gerner; and Paul’s brothers, Mike (Chrissy) Schmitz and Larry (Jan) Schmitz. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Jerry; and Paul’s parents, Clarence and Bernetta Schmitz.
Visitation for Judy will be held on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, 524 N. Park Ave. in Fond du Lac and again on Wednesday, October 28, 2015, beginning at 9:00 AM and continuing until 11:00 AM, at which time a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Wednesday’s location for visitation/Mass will be St. John the Baptist Parish, N9288 County W, in Malone. Cremation will follow the traditional services.
