Kent Thomas Herbert

Kent Thomas Herbert, of Appleton, WI, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2016. He was born as Kent Frederick Baxter on January 16, 1932 in Brandon, WI, and was later adopted as Kent Thomas Herbert. Kent spent his childhood in Brandon and Fond du Lac, WI, where he met the love of his life, Georgene Ferdinand at the Retlaw Theatre. They married and moved to Fort Benning, Kansas after he entered the United States Army. He served with the 3rd Battalion, 14th Armored Cavalry, 1st Constabulary Brigade.



Following his military service, he returned to Fond du Lac where he joined Haentze Floral Co. as a bookkeeper. He enjoyed camping with his family, hunting, and fishing. He later commuted nights from Fond du Lac to Marquette University in Milwaukee, carrying a full load and providing for his seven children. After graduating from Marquette, he spent a long career in the Savings and Loan, Banking, and Credit Union industries. He retired at seventy-two years of age from Eastern Financial Florida Credit Union in Miramar, Florida as President and CEO. He and Georgene took the reverse retirement course and returned to Fond du Lac.



Kent had and incredible memory, remembering every person who passed through his life from an early age. He wrote his memoirs, a very amazing and vivid recollection of his past. Later, Kent developed a passion for genealogy, accepting nothing but accuracy in his research and discoveries. He most recently completed a novel based upon his ancestors’ travels from Ireland to the United States.



Kent is survived by his children, Mark (Betty) Herbert, Thomas (Cindy) Herbert, Kevin (Rosie) Herbert, Elizabeth (Lee) Van Deraa, Christine (special friend Kelly Conrad) Herbert, Anthony (Kathy) Herbert, Michael (Mary) Herbert; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary (Richard) Wehner and Constance (John) Stevens; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of fifty-four years, Georgene (nee Ferdinand) Herbert; his father, Leonard Baxter; his step-father, Lester (Boppie) Herbert and his mother, Katherine (Nana) (nee Kent).



Visitation will take place on Wednesday, September 21, 2016, from 4-7 P.M. at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, 524 N. Park Ave, Fond du Lac, WI, 54935. A Liturgy of the Word Service will take place on Thursday, September 22, 2016, at 11:00 A.M. at Holy Family Church-Holy Family Parish, 271 4th St. Way, Fond du Lac, WI, 54935. Visitation will also take place on Thursday at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Trier-Puddy American Legion Post #75 will conduct military graveside services.
