LaVern “Vern” Halfman, 94, of Scottsdale, Arizona died on Friday, September 9, 2016. He was born in Jericho, Wisconsin on October 25, 1921, a son of Henry Halfmann and Selena (Greuel) Halfmann. On January 3, 1942 he married Virginia Nicolay at St Gregorys Church in St. Nazianz.
Vern worked many years in Fond du Lac at the former Giddings & Lewis as a machinist. After moving to Phoenix he was employed at Garret Air Research and later on he formed Halfman Machine Tool Company and did contract machine work for various companies.
He was an avid golfer and played into his 90’s. He also enjoyed family and friends.
He is survived by his daughter, Sandra (David) Beyer of Fond du Lac and his sons, Ryan Halfman of Woodbury, Minnesota, Steven (Patricia) Halfman of Peoria, Arizona and Bradley (Jennifer) Halfman of Mesa, Arizona; sister, Colexia Diedrick and sister-in law, Stella Nicolay; 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Vern was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years; a son, Blake H. Halfman, his parents; a brother, Leo; mother-in-law, Francis (Karls) Nicolay; father-in-law, Theodore Nicolay; brothers-in-law, Glenroy Diedrick, Emil Kornack, and Helmuth Nicolay; sister-in-law, Alice Kornack; and one great-grandchild, Kelter.
The visitation will be held Monday, September 19, from 9:00 -11:00 am at Holy Family Church, 271 4th Street Way, Fond du Lac. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 am at Holy Family Church and burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery.
