La Verne C. "Charlie" Lemke, 87, a resident of Manor Care Nursing Home for the past two years, died Monday, January 19, 2009, at her residence. She was born September 22, 1921, in Chilton, WI, the daughter of William and Helena Bornemann Mathers. On January 2, 1942, she married Harry C. Lemke in Fond du Lac, and preceded her in death on August 14, 1985. For over 25 years, she was employed by the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home as a nurse's aid, retiring in 1986. La Verne loved bowling, and always made sure she had a good time with friends and family. She could put a smile on everyone's face. She loved and nurtured her family. She is survived by her four daughters, Sandy Odekirk of Eden, Susan (Peter) Friess, Sherry (Robert) Schaub, and Shelly (Dale) Simon, all of Fond du Lac, eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and one great great grandson. She is further survived by a sister, Jeanette Burton of Fond du Lac, and a brother, Wayne (Ruth) Mathers also of Fond du Lac. Her parents, husband, a brother, six brothers-in-law, five sisters-in-law, and a son-in-law preceded her in death.
Visitation for Mrs. La Verne C. "Charlie" Lemke will be on Wednesday, January 21, 2009, from 4 to 8 pm at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. Liturgy of the Word for Christian Burial services will be at 10:30 AM on Thursday at the funeral home. The Rev. John Simon will officiate and entombment will be in the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum, Ledgeview Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Hartland Hospice in care of the family.
