LAWRENCE A. BURKHOLDERLawrence A. Burkholder, 85, died Friday May 6, 2011, at his residence. He was born on June 12, 1925 in Morenci, MI, son of Louis and Minnie (Harms) Burkholder. He joined the USMC in 1943 serving in WWII and was honorably discharged in 1946. He married Virginia Schwartz on August 8, 1946 St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Lomira. She preceded him in death on January 15, 2001. He worked as a carpenter for St. Agnes Hospital for 25 years retiring in 1988. Lawrence served as Town Chairman for the Town of Empire from 1971-1995, was a member of the American Legion for 50 years, and was also Woodworking Leader for 4-H. He enjoyed playing cards, making wine, and woodworking, especially making doll houses.SURVIVORS: include two sons Charles (special friend Cindy Binger) Burkholder, Fond du Lac; Ted Burkholder, Estacada, OR; a daughter Nancy Burkholder, Merrill; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one sister, Florence Belding, Wauseon, OH. Lawrence is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Virginia, one grandson, Thomas Burkholder, two brothers, and two sisters.
VISITATION: Friends may call on Monday, May 9, 2011, at the Uecker-Witt Funeral Home from 4-8PM and again on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at the Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church from 10-11AM. FUNERAL: Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at 11:00AM with Rev. David Haugly officiating. Trier-Puddy American Legion Post N0. 75 will conduct military services. Entombment will follow at the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum. Memorials are appreciated to Faith Ev. Lutheran Church and Hospice Hope.Uecker-Witt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
