Leo R. Knaus

Leo R. Knaus, 92, formerly of Pipe, died Wednesday, October 27, 2010, at St. Francis Nursing Home where he was a resident for the past year. He was born April 4, 1918, in the Town of Marshfield, the son of Oscar and Irene Merten Knaus.On October 2, 1948, he married Valeria Lauby at St. Mary's Church in Fond du Lac. She preceded him in death on September 10, 1992. He later married Alma Simon Abhold on August 3, 1994. They spent their winters at Lakeside Ranch at Winterhaven, Florida for many years. Mr. Knaus farmed in the Johnsburg area until 1980 when he moved to Fond du Lac. He was a member of Holy Family Parish attending Sacred Heart Church He was a member of the Knights of Columbus #664, a charter member of the Calumet Fire Department, past President of the Pipe Senior Center, and volunteered for many years at St. Agnes Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Alma, five step-children, Thomas (Ramona) Abhold and Peter (Mary Jo) Abhold both of Armstrong, Joan (Dwight) Weiser of Fond du Lac, Susan (Mike) Gusse of St. Croix Falls, WI, and Mary Ann (Dave) Wagner of Sartell, MN. A sister, Rose Emery of Fond Du Lac, a sister-in-law, Carol Knaus, and many nieces and nephews further survive him. His parents, first wife, a brother, Chester Knaus, three sisters, Marjorie "Marge" Hau, Antonette Colson, and Marion Koenigs, three sisters-in-law, Irma Julka, Angeline Wagner, and Marie Enders, and two brothers-in-law, Raymond Lauby and Reuben Koenigs. Also preceding him in death were his step-brother-in-law and step-sisters-in-law, Hugo and Josephine Salm, Francis and Mildred Costello, and Herbert and Cedona Hass.



Visitation for Mr. Leo R. Knaus will be on Monday, November 1, 2010, from 1 to 3 PM at St. Francis Nursing Home Chapel, 33 Everett Street, Fond du Lac. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 3 PM at the chapel. The Reverend Joseph Wolf OFM. Cap. will officiate and entombment will be in the Chapel of The Risen Christ Mausoleum, Calvary Cemetery, on Tuesday, November 2nd at 10 AM. Uecker-Witt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
