Leon J. Groeschl

October 18, 1939 — May 5, 2014

Was born in Fond du Lac but baptized and raised in the rural Chilton area. He attended Chilton High School and was part of the business communities of Chilton and nearby. Eventually, he migrated south to the Fond du Lac area and was employed for many years with Rueping Leather Co. He married the love of his life, Sandra (Comeaux) April 17, 1971. After Rueping, he drove semi OTR but made many local friends thru his business, was employed at Steenberg Homes as one of their main warranty serviceman, when he finally retired. Leon was known for making friends wherever he went even the local stores knew him well. Funny how he became a self-made carpenter and fix it man. He could do anything and did! His home and home away from home are a testament to his love for creating and doing. Music...he was raised on it. On and off through the years, he played the drums in both his father, Tony and brother Syl Groeschl polka bands. In his early, early years, he enjoyed stock car racing and was one of the 'top 20' listed drivers in the area at that time. Then became State Director for the Jaycees where he won state awards for leadership and speaking. Was he proud of those! Remember True Blue? the first of the 6 boats that started the family on a life of boating and camping for many, many years. Oh the good times they had and the many friends that were made. He is a former member of the Fond du Lac Yacht Club and the Fond du Lac Boating Club where he served as commodore. Naming the boats is how the "Sandele" trade name for the business came into being. He and Sandy were a team with their rentals, fixing and remodeling as needed. Says it kept him young. He is currently a member of the Fond du Lac Aerie #270 where they frequently enjoyed the Friday Night Fish fry's. The kid's sports, music and school activities kept the family very busy for a few years. Remember when he coached the hockey team? To our son's delight, it didn't last long. Then age came creeping up so they changed courses to a camper on a site at Huckleberry Acres. Little did they know what a whole new world of friends that opened to them, they treasured them all. Leon enjoyed the fires, friends, activities and most of all just tooling around the camp with his Rusti on guard seated next to him in Nellibelle, (his favorite color) 'blue' golf cart. Throughout their 43 yr. marriage, they did it together, work, play, dancing, school activities, always a family unit. When the grandchildren came he was in special heaven. They seemed to gravitate to him. His family was always so special and a constant source of pride to him as he was to them.Leon is survived by the following: His wife Sandra of North Fond du Lac, His son, Jeffrey (Eulonda) Groeschl, Fond du Lac, their children, Tara, Heather, Logan and Dylan. His daughter, Melinda (William) Towne, Fond du Lac, their children, Brianna, Casandra, Noah, EmmaLeigh, Joseph; and grandchildren: Kalley Groeschl, Trisha (Corey) Voigt, Scott (Maria) Groeschl, Kortney Groeschl. Scott Groeschl, Calif., Lonnie Groeschl (Waupun) and his son Ian; Two sisters, Lucille Cullen, Chilton, Valeria Buechel, St. Cloud. A sister in law, Carol Groeschl, Chilton and in laws, Dennis (fiance Rose Wendt) Comeaux, Kathryn (David) Hinn,) Randall (Sharon) Comeau, Scott (Andrea) Comeaux all of Fond du Lac; Marsha (Jerome) Schmitz, Gayle (Michael) Peters and Laurie (Larry) Ball of North Fond du Lac. He has many nieces and nephews and their families too, that will miss him. And his little Rusti. He is preceded in death by: his son Christopher, his parents, Anton & Veronica (Franzen) Groeschl, his two brothers, Sylvester and Anthony Groeschl, his sister Eileen Groeschl, his sister in law Mary Groeschl, brothers in law, James Cullen, Clarence Buechel, granddaughter, Jamie Huebschman and his mother and father in law, Galen and Joyce Comeaux. And thru it all, he always believed that there was a guiding hand from above showing him the way. God was a meaningful part of Leon's life in the quiet private manner that was his. Leon, you lived a good life, started a dynasty family and loved us all -- what a softie you were and we loved you. As little Emma said, 'Grandpa be a angel now!' Until we meet again!
