Leona Bindert, 78, formerly of North Fond du Lac, died Monday, December 28, 2009, at Manor Care Nursing Home where she had been a resident since June of this year. She was born October 29, 1931, in Fond du Lac, the daughter of Nickolau and Athanasia Koumoduros Pothas. Leona attended L.P. Goodrich High School. On November 10, 1962, she married Kenneth O. Bindert. He preceded her in death on July 26, 2009. Leona was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. She was formerly employed by Wells Manufacturing Company. She enjoyed traveling with her husband. Surviving is a brother, John (Doris) Pothas of Fond du Lac, a stepson, Steven (Virginia) Bindert of Murray, KY, two brothers-in-law, Gino Scudella and Clarence (Shirley) Bindert, both of Fond du Lac, and two sisters-in-law, Pat Pothas and Carol (Ray) Hinz, both of Fond du Lac, several nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Gust and George Pothas, and three sisters, Mary Barba, Helen Scudella, and Penelope Lapinski.
Visitation for Mrs. Leona Bindert will be on Thursday, December 31, 2009, from 9 to 11 am at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 198 N. Macy Street, Fond du Lac. Funeral services will be at 11 am on Thursday at the church. The Rev. Peter Pappademetriou will officiate and burial will be in Rienzi Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be directed to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. Uecker-Witt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
