LeRoy J. Schmitz

LeRoy J. Schmitz, age 77, of Fond du Lac, died Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at St. Agnes Hospital. He was born on March 29, 1946, in Fond du Lac, the son of Royander and Doris (Petrick) Schmitz. On July 10, 1971, he married Bonnie Braford at Church of Our Saviour in Fond du Lac. She preceded him in death on February 19, 2003. LeRoy then married Jill Dietrich on July 9, 2010.

LeRoy owned and operated Bonnie-Lee Farms for many years. In 2014 he was awarded the Distinguished Leadership Award by AgSource Cooperative Services. He served on the Board of Directors for four consecutive three-year terms. He was a former Farm First delegate, former supervisor of the Fond du Lac Town Board, and former treasurer of the Equity Ripon-Lomira Livestock Marketing Cooperative Board. He also was involved with the Fond du Lac County Holstein Breeders Association, Fond du Lac Agribusiness Council, and member at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac where he served on numerous boards.

Survivors include his wife, Jill; six children, Thomas (Staci) Schmitz, Julie Schalk, Shawn Schmitz, Nicole Schmitz, Jennifer Burns, Steven (Leah) Schmitz; eleven grandchildren, Zachary Schmitz, Dustin Schmitz, Jonathan (Jordyn) Schalk, Garrett (Christina) Schalk, Liam (Emily Williams) Schalk, Parker (Sebastian Meyer) Schmitz, Makaila Dorn, Joseph Burns, Kelsi Schmitz, Ivy Schmitz, and Ruby Schmitz; four great-grandchildren; siblings, Michael Schmitz, Sharon (Bill) Huck, Rose Steiner, Larry Schmitz; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Judith Schmitz; his second wife, Bonnie Schmitz; brother, Richard Schmitz; one grandson, Hogan; Harry and Dorothy Braford; his stepfather, Emil Hass.

Visitation will take place on Saturday, February 10, 2024, from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 606 Forest Ave, Fond du Lac, WI, 54935. A funeral service will follow the visitation at the church at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow the service at 2:00 PM at Avoca Cemetery, Oakfield, WI.
