Lyle A. Watke

Lyle A. Watke, 97 of 247 E. 10th Street, died Thursday, January 19, 2012 at St. Francis Home. He was born November 13, 1914 in Fond du Lac, the son of Albert L. and Alma Bilkoski Watke. He was a graduate of Fond du Lac High School graduating on January 29, 1932. On September 15, 1943 he married Lorraine M. Ballwanz at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac. Lorraine preceded Lyle in death on October 30, 2011. Lyle was employed as a welder with Manowske Welding and later with the University of Wisconsin Fond du Lac in maintenance retiring in 1976. Lyle was a member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards, dancing and fishing in his younger years.Surviving is a son, John (Dolores) Watke, Wallops Island, VA, a daughter, Nancy (Stephen) Gross, North Fond du Lac, a granddaughter, Angela (Joseph) Nitz, North Fond du Lac, a great-granddaughter, Aubrey Nitz, two sister-in-laws, Arlene Johnson and Lorraine Ballwanz, both of Fond du Lac, many nieces, nephews, and relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a sister, Dorothy (Richard) Doylen and a nephew Richard Doylen.



At Lyle's request there will be no visitation. Memorial services will be held on Monday, January 23, 2012 at 11:00 AM at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1600 South Main Street, Fond du Lac. Reverend Michael Zuberbier will officiate. Cremation has taken place. Inurnment will be in Estabrooks Cemetery.Memorials appreciated to the Fond du Lac Public Library in Lyle's name.
