Lyle K. Hagman, 83, a resident of Fond du Lac, died Friday, January 24, 2014, at his residence. He was born August 6, 1930, in Zumbrota, Minnesota, the son of Clarence and Louella Satrum Hagman. He graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1949. Lyle served with the US Navy during the Korean War from 1949 to 1953. On October 20, 1962, he married Sandra Genrich at Church of Peace in Fond du Lac. She died October 21, 2000. He was formerly employed by Tolibia Cheese as a cheese maker, retiring in 1985. Lyle started the Babe Ruth Baseball League in Fond du Lac, was State Commissioner for six years, and was Assistant Ohio Valley Regional Commissioner. He was also State Public Relations Director of the Babe Ruth League. Lyle was a member of Trier-Puddy American Legion Post #75 and the post firing squad. He enjoyed hunting, golfing, and collecting baseball cards. He was a member of St. Peters Evangelical Lutheran Church. Lyle is survived by two sons, Steven (Terri) Hagman of Neenah, and Thomas (Suzanne) Hagman of North Fond du Lac, two daughters, Lisa (Mike) Emerich and Julie (Fiancé Eugene Newton) Hagman both of Fond du Lac, four grandsons, Jonathan, David, Ryan, and Cody, four granddaughters, Nicole, Alyssa, Kelsey, and Emmi, three step-grandchildren, Jake, Luke, Eli Milner and three great-grandchildren, Edward, Elliott, and Marley. He is further survived by two sisters, Carolyn (Wally) Nelson of Baldwin, WI, and LaVonne Ellingson of St. Paul, MN, and two brothers, Kenneth (Nancy) Safe of Aurora, CO, and Carl Safe of St. Louis, MO. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Judy Rick of Fond du Lac, special friends, Gary Spiering of Florida, Ed Petrie and Phil Moses, both of Fond du Lac, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, step-father, Burt Safe, and his wife, Sandra.
Visitation for Lyle K. Hagman will be on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, from 4 to 8 PM at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, and again on Thursday, January 30th, from 9:30 to 11 AM at St. Peters Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1600 S. Main Street, Fond du Lac. Funeral services will be at 11 AM on Thursday at the church. The Rev. Michael Zuberbier will officiate. Burial in Estabrooks Cemetery will follow. A memorial has been established in Lyle's name.
