M. Betty Wolfe

May 13, 1923 — December 14, 2011

M. Betty Wolfe passed away on December 14, 2011. She was 88 years old.Betty was the oldest of seven children who grew up in Merrill, Wisconsin. Betty was the caregiver for her brothers and sisters because her mother worked away from the home and her father died when she was a young adult. At a family reunion in 1996, Betty's brother Bob commented that when he discussed childhood events or milestones with his wife, his wife would recall her parents' involvement in those events, Bob recalled Betty's involvement in those events. Betty graduated from high School in 1941. During World War II, Betty worked at Weinbrenner's Shoe Factory in Merrill. She also worked as a waitress at a local diner. While at that diner she met a man traveling through town and dressed to the nines in a zoot suit. They married and Betty began traveling with her husband, Everett Wolfe. For the next several years Betty and Everett traveled from north to south and back in the United States as weather changed and they painted barns. Along the way she had four children. Also traveling with them at times were her brother Lee, her sister Jane and Jane's husband Jerry. Betty and Everett finally stopped traveling the United States and settled in East Lamartine, Wisconsin in 1955. They built a house and a gas station on Highway 151. Everett and Lee ran the station with Betty's help as she pumped gas and did the books. They had two more children. Everett sold the gas station to Lee and started a new business with a partner called Fondy Auto Electric. Betty did the books and the office work for Fondy Auto Electric for years. In 1978, Everett passed away. Betty continued to work at Fondy Auto Electric and became a very active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Fond du Lac. Betty had a rich church life at First Presbyterian. She was initially on the education team, was ordained an Elder and later settled in as an Outreach Team member. Betty was instrumental in starting the Back to School Shop in Fond du Lac which served thousands of needy children in Fond du Lac during her years of involvement. She also oversaw the mission giving at the church and the emergency disbursement of funds. She was active in Outreach until 2010. In her spare time Betty enjoyed sewing, pattern drafting, crafts, painting, reading, traveling and spending time with her family.Betty was a constant source of encouragement, support and enjoyment to her children and their spouses. Her support and encouragement allowed each of her children to utilize their talents and succeed in their chosen field and in life. Betty was a role model for her children and for many others. She will be greatly missed by her children, her family, her church family and her friends.
