Madelyn Rose Schuppe

Madelyn Rose Schuppe (McGrath), 87 passed away on March 22, 2011 at St. Francis Home where she had been a resident for the past three years. Before residing at St. Francis Home, she had been a resident of St. Francis Terrace for three years. Madelyn was born on March 29, 1923 in Fond du Lac, the daughter of Rose (Michels) McGrath and Robert McGrath. She spent her early life in Chicago and after her mother died, Madelyn moved to Fond du Lac at the age of 13 to reside with her aunt and uncle, Evelyn and Fred Weller. She graduated from Fond du Lac High School in 1941. On August 17, 1942, she married Walter Schuppe in Bakersfield, California while Walter was serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps at Minter Field during World War II. Madelyn was a very sweet, kind woman. She loved her family immensely and her favorite pastime was spending time with them. Her sense of humor, warmth, compassion and grace drew people to her. She was a strong, positive woman even in the face of adversity. Madelyn was a person of many talents. She was a great cook and seamstress. She enjoyed crocheting, needlepoint, ceramics, writing in her journals, crossword puzzles, a good manhattan and she was a voracious reader. She also loved water aerobics and walking. Madelyn was a reluctant golfer with a hole-in one to her credit. To her grandchildren, she was a good storyteller, brownie maker and board game player. Madelyn was a member of Holy Family Parish and served as a greeter at church.We are blessed to have had such a wonderful woman in our lives and we will miss her greatly.Survivors include three children, Tom (Karen) Schuppe of Fond du Lac, John (Jane) Schuppe of Fond du Lac and Mary Kennedy (Paul Moeller) of Richfield; nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren, Michelle (Nick) Eckhart and children, Zoe (7) and Calista (4), Christopher (Jennifer) Schuppe and children, Cara (14), Emma (12), and Grace (9), Daniel (Deena) Schuppe and children, Jared (14), Solomon (12) and Aurora (10), Kate Schuppe (special friend, Joe Summers), Jeffrey (Jessica) Schuppe and children, Grayson (5) and Dilane (3), Lauren Schuppe (Gilpin Matthews), Patrick Kennedy and his daughter, Whalen (2), Alexander Kennedy and daughters, Alexis (11) and Kaylee (9) and Maureen (Adam) Hill and their son, Finn McGrath Hill.Preceding Madelyn in death were her husband, Walter in 2006; her parents Rose and Robert, special aunts and uncles who helped raise her: Evelyn and Fred Weller, Elizabeth Bethke, Barbara Wulf, Gertrude Hand and Tony and Leo Michels; her son, Joseph Patrick Schuppe in 1982 and many beloved sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and friends.



VISITATION: Saturday, March 26, 2011 from 9-11 A.M. at Holy Family Parish-Holy Family Church, 271 4th St. Way, Fond du Lac. FUNERAL: Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Holy Family Church with the Reverend Robert Stiefvater officiating. Entombment will follow at Chapel of the Risen Christ Mausoleum.
